A daisy in Big Sky on the trail to a small lake. This is the view from about 10,000 foot elevation on Lone Mountain. You can see rain in the distance. Because of thunder and my footing, I decided not to go for the peak. Here is an elk in the Madison River Valley in Yellowstone. A small geyser exploding on Geyser Hill near Old Faithful. Runoff into the Firehole River. Notice the scale from the people walking above. Lone Mountain from my hotel room. Lone Mountain is over 11,000 feet at the top of the Big Sky resort This is one of the Lion Group going off with Heart Spring in the foreground We saw a lot of cow elk. These elk are in the Firehole River area between the upper and midway geyser areas. These two elk are different than the elk in the previous picture but at the same location. This is Clepsydra Geyser in the Lower Geyser Basin, which is always going off. The lighting was great for the shot. Here is the Lower Geyser Basin in great lighting near the Fountain Paint Pots.

I fixed the glare by making it an old-fashioned-style photo. These are dark times just like the days of yore. An artistic embossed version of Malachy on his way to the paddywagon with the White House fence in the background. Many joined Dave throughout the day, either joining him in the outfit or holding signs like this Dave in Guantanamo torture gear. Many people reacted strongly to this Dave Barrows, in front of White House This was the main stage for the TASSC event. Behind it was a cage where a mock torture was staged Here is an example of the mock torture. The event lasted 24 hours, and people rotated in and out of the cage. The civil disobedience action begins. Many of these people showed solidarity with those who ultimately were arrested. The action began with a picket of the White House. The picket continues for a few minutes Park Police quickly close in. This horse was hard to control, very disturbed by all the commotion The horses line up and face off with the demonstrators Everyone here except Art Laffin (far right) were arrested for civil disobedience Malachy Kilbride holds his sign with head bowed. The yellow line is police tape. The arrest took about 20 minutes total. While waiting, symbolic gestures were made like this one with protesters facing the White House. Two who were arrested. The Park Police ready the plastic handcuffs. These things hurt. A shot showing the horses and the police. The police wouldn't let anyone except media between the horses and the crowd. It was possible to get close to the arrestees from the side. A lot of glare on this photo unfortunately. They arrested the women first. The arrests continue. Malachy is in the processof being arrested. The police took his sign. Malachy gestures to Harold that he is going to make the police take the sign from him. Malachy being cuffed. Malachy cuffed. Harold in cuffs as Park Police guard the perimeter. The cuff was way too tight on this man. This was a rather mild expression compared with the ones that I witnessed. Malachy is on his way to the paddywaggon. Dave sets up for a photo op showing the relation between torture and law enforcement. Several tv crews filmed him here, and a picture from this spot ended up on the news wire. In the background, you can see they are still loading the arrestees into the paddywagon As the civil disobedience action continued, Luci Murphy sang. Two people beating drums at the TASSC event Dave spent much of the day here. The TASSC people hung a sign on him from an actual victim of torture. If you can, zoom in and read part of this man's story. Many tourists stopped to read it as well. A black and white contour of the same image. This was the scene much of the day. You can see it wasn't a large action, but the people there were very dedicated. Dave continues his part of the vigil. Secret Service harrassed him, though he was on the legal side of the line. Eventually, they left him alone when people showed up to defend his right to be there. A sign that someone held. I developed this picture early, came back to the event, and walked with it open so that I could have a sign to hold, too. This image is in charcoal-style. I thought it brought out the meaning of the sign more than the color image. Another real torture victim, this one from Sri Lanka, hangs as a sympathizer holds vigil in the cage. This man here helped watch Dave and made sure that he didn't face any trouble. A front view of the cage.
